All Ages Welcome
Inova Loudoun Hospital prides itself on caring for people at all stages of life. As proof of this, just peruse this InHealth issue. Our cover story on sports medicine features two star high school athletes. These teenagers reflect the younger population that comes through our doors. Read on and you’ll notice that the patients who use our services run the age gamut — from children to mothers to mature joint replacement candidates.
Just as you grow up with us, our hospital has grown up with you. This year is our 100th anniversary. (Be sure to see below for details on our free birthday celebration!). We have changed a lot since 1912 when we started as a six-room hospital on Market Street. As one example, consider the advancements in our joint replacement surgery department.
We are now offering MAKOplasty®, a minimally invasive knee replacement surgery. In the area of obstetrics, we have opened the Antenatal Testing Center, which provides testing for high-risk moms. We also have an expanded Lactation Center. In a different area of medicine, a new concussion program opened earlier this year.
So, in short, we are here for you. Don’t hesitate to give us a call to set up an appointment. Inova's new 24-hour, bilingual physician-referral service helps you find a doctor close to your home or work. Our goal, besides making medicine more advanced, is to make it more accessible. |

Good Thinking
Concussion Management Program Begins
 |
When a person suffers a concussion or other brain injury, axons in the brain are damaged. Axons are specialized extensions of neurons, the cells in your brain that communicate with distant nerve cells. Severe sudden trauma to the brain can stretch, twist and damage these delicate axonal fibers, leading to permanent brain injury.
|
Head injuries should not be taken lightly, no matter what the patient’s age, which is why Inova Loudoun Hospital started the Head2Head Concussion Management Program.” We now know that concussions can result not only from serious head trauma but also from multiple minor head injuries or even injuries people did not know occurred,” says Ron Waldrop, MD, Medical Director of the program. The full-service clinic, which serves patients up to age 30, evaluates the patient to determine a diagnosis and whether therapy is needed. The program is for those who have been diagnosed with a concussion only and not for those who have had head injuries with fractures or bleeding.

A Head Start
The Head2Head Concussion Management Program
is located at the hospital’s Lansdowne campus, 44035 Riverside Parkway, Suite 500A, Leesburg.
